Conclusion: Has Gentrification Changed O4W?
Gentrification in Atlanta and Old Fourth Ward is nothing new. It has been around now for several decades, yet economic and environmental expansion of the area continue to happen at a rapidly increasing rate. From the additions of large parks and thriving businesses, to the construction of bigger, more expensive homes and apartments, there’s a big chance that lower-income families find it harder and harder to live there.
History plays a major part in the controversy of this topic. Whether it’s the historical roots of past residents, or the civil rights activism that occurred there, gentrification has put an enormous effect on the community, built environment, and economy of Atlanta.
