“Located in the heart of Atlanta”, Georgia State University contains an area that exists in the center of several classroom buildings and the GSU library. It is called the Unity Plaza, and everyday on my way to class I see hundreds of students making their way to class as well as socializing and studying. The design of the GSU courtyard encourages unity. Why? Located in the courtyard are several garbage cans. Not only do the garbage cans serve as means to keep the area clean and unified, but they also display stickers and graffiti from artists, students, record labels, and more. They exemplify unity in the way that self expression brings groups of students together.
