CRAAP ( Currency, relevance, authority, accuracy, purpose)

Justfacts.org

Currency – The up to date information is based off prior years depending on the topic. Some topics have the current year of 2022 to 2023 but the site also pulls supporting data from prior years.

Relevance –  The accuracy and credibility of the information and data are as accurate as they take a pool of sources and compares the accuracy of information of each source to validate accuracy, authenticity, and to debunk disinformation For each topic there is a huge amount of data from present years and to prior years.

Authority – The site is a non-profit so their is no ulterior motive to generate a profit like certain businesses and news outlets. They have a guarantee on the integrity of the information and data they share. They also acknowledge the differing opinions of their board but what draws everyone together is the principles from the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”. They also are a legitimate domain when searched on ICAAN.

Accuracy – The information and the accuracy is based off the methodology of collecting the information of the topic from many different sites, organizations, and institutions. They then use the their topic to compare the data from each information collected to look for disparities to figure out what is false information and what is true. 

Purpose –  Justfacts.org is dedicated to providing facts about public policies and promoting research skills to individuals to process data, apply critical thinking, and to allow individuals to make conscious choices in their life in determining what they deem is true to them and what they are willing to accept as the truth.

Factcheck.org

Currency – The information is up to date on todays current events and news headlines. They have broad topics but also niche topics involving situations from around the world.

Relevance – The journalists of the posts tend to be up to date on current events and they also have many contributing journalists who are fact checking what is being presented to the public by politicians. The way the information is presented that is also easily understood and requires very little higher education background. 

Authority – The website receives from funding from foundations, donations, and discloses their financial statements from where their funding was coming from. When you search ICAAN, they are a legitimate domain. 

Accuracy – The information is a non profit that focuses on United States politics and also uses science check to search for the true data on scientific data. They are also getting their data vetted by education foundations but the only concerning aspect is one major donor, Facebook. I think there should be caution when considering Facebook is a big donator and whether or not their fact checking programs are altered in a way that provides disinformation and distorting the data collected.

Purpose – Justfacts.org focuses on the information presented in US politics and helping individuals make educated choices on who to vote for and with as little bias as possible with the information and data collected. The data collected doesn’t ignore any of the political spectrums and presents the information collected from all political debates, ads, and what was said at rallys to provide every individual data and information to make their own conscious choice on what is true.
