Dear John Lewis,
As a black girl growing up in the 2000’s its hard to imagine what yourself and our people went through. I can imagine being beat and battered by police, the people who swear to serve and protect us. You marched, waited in the pouring rain, were pushed around by police men, and yet you still went to the courthouse and demanded what you wanted no what you needed. The strength that went into holding your ground is absolutely incredible. Did you ever feel like quitting? Were you ever scared? How did you get over the fear? It was your due diligence and many others that got us to where we are now in 2019. Although change has come, I am still disgusted by the racism and prejudice going on now. To be so hateful no fearful that you think that you are superior to others makes me feel hopeless sometimes. To see those who are meant to protect us kill and batter its own citizens makes it evident that racism is still alive and well. I commend you for continuing your philosophy, even last fall you stood in line serving people with food and water as the machines were limited and shut down during the 2019 Governor election. You pointed out the fact that these voters are being disenfranchised. I appreciate your continued efforts.
Salutations,
Victoria
