I’ve always liked observing people, especially at the train station. People seem to have a certain tenseness, and stress about them when they are waiting at the train station. I choose this space because it is heavily populated and it gives me a feeling of home, The first time I had ridden the train I was 5 years old I thought it was theta coolest thing.
As I looked around the station the aroma of oil and pee wafted into my nose. I scrunched my nose in disgust and continued to find a place on an empty bench. The heat from the space heater rose up my arms and shoulder warming my external body. As I sat at the bench a man sat next to me. I looked him up and down, he had closely shaved fade with waves. He was in a very black professional outfit with loafers on. I noticed he did not have any socks on with his shoes, I wondered to myself if that was a fashion choice, or if he forgot, or did not have any clean socks.
I looked up out of my daze and saw a young man, about 5’10, small stature with the most extraordinary smooth dark chocolate skin performing on the platform to himself. Shouting “Murder gang shit, slaughter gang shit” I laughed because I thought it was funny to see someone enjoying themselves so much singing such vulgar words. In the corner of my eye an older man with long gray dreads sung along to Micheal Jackson’s song, Remember the time. Watching these two perform out loud to the whole station gave a feeling of comfort as this was something so specific to Atlanta.
