Project 6 – Idioms Busy as a Bee

This project was completed on November 17, 2024, during the Fall Semester. The tools used were Strathmore Bristol paper and acrylic paint in the colors blue, violet, yellow, and orange. I also used graphite pencils to draft the drawing and micron pens for details in the painting. The objective was to use idioms and express their meaning in a painting.

Project 6
Idioms

Reflections/Analysis

1. Begin by writing out the idiom.   Busy as a Bee

2. How did you translate your idea into visual elements?
What imagery did you use and why?

I considered the events happening around me. It’s that time of the year when most people are excited to start decorating their homes for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I chose an imagery of a father carrying a ladder to decorate his house while his child watched. As he gets ready to work, a bee wearing a hard hat buzzes by and wants to help.

3. What colors did you choose to use and why?

The colors I chose were yellow, blue, green, and orange. I chose these colors because they are festive.

4. What is the focal point and how did you emphasize it
using color (and / or other means)?

The focal point is the man carrying the ladder.  I chose the colors that celebrate the season for giving thanks.

5. What are the dominant values and colors used?

The dominant colors used were blue and green.

6. What things are unifying the composition? What is
helping to tie it together/ keeping it from getting too jumbled or chaotic?

The bushes in front of the window, the bushes under the sky, and the grass.

7. What is adding variety to your composition? What is
helping to break up the unity, add visual interest, and keeping the image from
getting monotonous?

The variety of colors, the textures, and adding a little humor.

8. What could use more work?

Having a shadow for the house and using more tones and shades.

9. What is most successful about your finished project?

The most successful aspect of my project was the ability to complete it.
