Project 5 – Candy Color

Completed on November 6, 2024 during Fall Semester. Used acrylic paint,4 5×5 Bristol smooth paper glued on a 15×16 black poster board. One 5×5 represented the original color of the candy wrapper. The other three represented monochromatic, triadic, and analogous colors. Other tools used were graphite pencils to draw the details, Posca markers for intense details, and a micron pen to label each painting.

Reflection/Analysis

Project 5 Color Systems

1. What candy package did you choose and why?

The candy package I chose was Swedish Fish because of its fun design and simple color palette.

2. What colors are in the original packaging and why do you think those colors were chosen? What do they say about the candy?

The colors on the packaging are vibrant primary colors of red, yellow, and blue. It speaks to the company’s confidence in its product and targets young consumers. The company says it’s “fat-free” and “tastes like fruit, not fish” (Google). Consumer reviews say this candy is chewy, sweet, and has a cherry-like flavor that tastes pretty good.

3. How did the look/ meaning of the candy change with the 3 additional color palettes?

The different palettes gave the candy a sense of variety. The monochromatic package reminded me of licorice flavors, while the triadic version reminded me of my favorite fruit-flavored candy by Life Savers Gummies.

4. What could be improved in your project?

In the analogous version, the red-orange fish appears redder than I intended.

5. What are you happiest with in your project?

I am happiest with the project as a whole because I learned about mixing colors and how to make each color stand out to create contrast.
