Spring Semester 2024 – Drawing 1
Drawing completed on 4/26/24. Title is Transcending. The materials used were a viewfinder, 18 x 24 drawing paper, graphite pencils HB, 2B, 4B, and 6B.
Reflections/Analysis
- What title would you give your project? (Don’t use the theme as the title, etc.)
The title of my project is “Transcending.”
- What was the subject of your project (within the overall theme of Dreams) Be specific: what is your drawing about?
My drawing demonstrates how I feel when I meditate during a yoga class. I am unaware of other people in the room but aware of the objects around me that comfort me, such as the sounds of a Tibetan Singing Bowl.
- What do you want your viewers to think about/ feel when looking at your drawing?
I want my viewers to feel peace and calm, to know that there is always a place where they can find comfort from everyday struggles. In the drawing, the girl is supposed to be floating, representing rising above struggles and going beyond oneself to obtain personal fulfillment.
- What were your project sources (both observation and found)
My project sources were my personal experiences with meditation and photos from Google Search and Unsplash.
- What challenges did you encounter with this project?
My challenge with this project was composition and the range of value. I was unsure how to place each object and subject to create my desired expression. It was a challenge to draw clouds and show the girl floating above her mat. I feel my message would be lost.
- What improvements could be made to your drawing?
Composition continues to be a struggle for me. I want to put so much into my drawings, but I realize the objects I select can be challenging. I find it difficult to develop the full range of values that provide the true essence of what I am feeling and observing in my drawings.
- What are you happiest with/ find most successful about your drawing?
I am happiest when I can draw something meaningful to me. Drawing the girl was one of my successes, even though I’ve always struggled with drawing figures.
