The Twitter essay was a new format for me, and to condense the essay to 140 characters was challenging. I tried a radical revision from the first tweet to the second tweet during the original project. The revised version of Twitter Essay #1 reflects a better understanding of multimodality.
The first essay displays what I think objects tell about an individual. Storytelling is important to humankind and is a very necessary part of humanity. It’s how we discover history, develop language, display sentiment, bestow honor, and receive affection. The link attached is a little tongue-in-cheek: Since I feel that storytelling is the main aspect of our attachment to objects and the class discussion led to admissions of an overall love for gifs, I included a ridiculous story to the beginning of the gif.
While composing the second essay, I decided to let my creativity flow to what I thought was the demise of the substance of my essay. Nearly every word corresponds to a song, which is why I included a picture of a playlist. Each of these songs or bands recalls a specific memory in my life. As I tried to go back and revise it, it felt right as it is.
Through the process of this project, I learned the importance of multimodality from a hands-on perspective. I have always appreciated it from an outsider’s standpoint. I hope to continue to use and develop this skill, because I know that I need refinement in this area.
