Welcome to GSUganda2017!

In a few days, we will start the long journey to Kampala, Uganda, where students will take part in a unique program that offers educational, applied, and cultural opportunities in this East African nation of 38 million people.

This trip will provide an introduction to public health issues (including violence, injuries, and HIV) from a global perspective with a focus on Uganda and Eastern Africa, primarily among youth and young adults.

Students will receive instruction from Georgia State professors and professors at Makerere University in Kampala, as well as by local Non-Governmental Organizational partners who work in the alcohol prevention field or health promotion more broadly. Our key collaborator, Makerere University, is a flagship university in Eastern Africa. The university is considered highly prestigious and is very research active with substantial research funding from the U.S.

Of course, our Georgia State students will also have plenty of opportunities to experience the natural beauty of Uganda, and to meet warm and welcoming people from all walks of life. We will visit markets, go on safari and visit the top cultural sites in Kampala.

Follow along as we kick off this academic adventure!
