Art is a Feeling

I define art as something that creates a feeling, whether it be a painting, drawing, poem, music, ect. I know that may not be the real definition but when I look at a picture or listen to a song that may not necessarily be famous or from someone famous I still feel like its art.

Why I decided to pick this piece is because how I feel about flowers. whether its a picture, me walking,  driving or in a office looking at a vase of flowers I see the art in them. depending on the flower, color and state its in I get a different feeling or a story that doesn’t necessarily have to do with flowers come to mind.

What I’ve learned from the  course content is art is created only by humans. Its not restricted to language only. its opinionated and  never really right or wrong how someone views a piece.  I also learned  that it’s connected to everyday living without being realized by most. As well as that it is made of something ordinary being transformed to something more complex.

I see some similarities in what I consider art and what the qualifiers consider. they too also agree with art being something that creates feeling. I may consider something’s art that they don’t since what I see as art may not always necessarily have an intent.

Beauty does not play a huge role in what I consider art. Although beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I can read or a see a dark piece and not think its beautiful but see the art in it based on how it was expressed and how it manifested what it was trying to express.

  1. There seems to be some confusion about how we’ve learned what art is and the image you’ve selected. You mentioned that there are similarities between the two, but what you discussed about the image is not related to the image as the work (i.e. the composition, angle at which the photo was taken, etc.) but rather the individual flowers themselves. As per the information in Module 3, we may find something from nature to have qualities that we find aesthetically pleasing but the fact that they’re not created with the intention of communicating or expressing something (by a human) disqualifies them as “art” for the purposes of class. Now, the photo you’ve selected which depicts flowers can definitely be considered art! A human found the flowers and their colors aesthetically pleasing (as you do) but they decided to actively create a document of the moment to share their individual observation with others (which makes the photo the actual work of art). It’s important to make this distinction within this module but it’s a hard distinction to make for many because the language we so often use to describe nature is similar to the language we use to describe art (as Botstein clarifies in the video).

  2. I agree that art as do with feeling and when you speak of feeling you are talking about expressing that feeling into a painting of the way you dress and several other ways.
Beauty is not necessarily the line that decides if some is heart or not, so i agree with you on that also.

  3. You really like flowers! Actually I like it, too, but only when I get it as present from boyfriend! 🙂 anyway, I agree with your point that art may not be necessary something famous.

  4. I like your sentence about the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And the rest of your blog Iam so confused your opinion about of art.
