During summer 2019, the students in EDUC 2110 and EDUC 2120 collected over 200 books to distribute to the schools within our partnership. Some of the photos and excerpts from the project are below:
“I’m a mother of three children. I’ve tried to surround them by books, especially those with characters that look like them. They enjoy reading electronic books on their tablets and phones but will occasionally get excited over a hardback book found at the library or school book fair. I
spoke to them about the lack of books in certain areas and explained that some children aren’t lucky enough to have the resources they have. I asked them to help collect books and even got them to share books with other kids in the neighborhood. The books pictured here are the ones collected from other children on our street. We shipped them to Salem Middle School and hope someone there can enjoy them.” – Belicia Anderson
