The water surrounding the graves of Martin and Coretta King
This environment is a well visited memorial. It has alot of visits every year. It sends out a very captivating message to people that don’t know much about Dr.King, and gives a clear message on what he was trying to do and how he was trying to do it. Because of him, we can do things that we were not able to back in the days that he was living. This assignment made me see more than I would usually see. This memorial is very known around the world and one of the most visited places in Atlanta. The traffic is always crazy but it is always worth it.
This is a picture of Martin Luther King’s Home in Atlanta,Ga
Looking at this house brings so many memories. When I was a child I too so many trips here. I never really paid attention to detail. When I sat down, and really looked at the house closely I noticed a lot. I saw different markings on the house and nest on top of the roof from years, and years. They looked as if they had been there for a while because they had spider webs all over them. The birds outside kept landing on the porch and they would just chirp for long periods of time. From time to time there would be a large group of people that would walk and take pictures with their brand new polaroid cameras. The kids with them would ask questions and some parents would answer and some would not. A older man with a cane, came by and read the bible to the house, as if Dr. King was the house. After the man left I looked in the windows where it looked like whenever the wind blew that would move. I always new about a lot of people coming to just sit at the house. Is it possible that Dr.King’s spirit is in the house? Things that were occuring were making me question this.
This is a picture when you are entering the historical site.
When I look at this, I think of all the other entrances there are around the world of the different Dr.King monuments. What makes this one different is that it has a carved out picture of him, holding up a child. It also has a joining of hands between African Americans and Causcasions. It is a very meaningful piece of artwork, that only sculptors with a sense of a unique design could only think of.
This small monument is very captivating. Cars all over Atlanta pass this everyday. It is one of the most used sceneries of Atlanta. It is placed in the front of a very busy intersection, and it also is placed where you can see all the bright lights of downtown Atlanta. This is where the firework show is during The 4th of July. Millions stand around, under, and all over this artwork.

This is a very moving part of my visit. This is the graves of Martin, and his wife Coretta. They were a power couple that couldn’t be broken. When I was a little younger, I attended Coretta Scott’s wake, before her funeral. It was such a emotional thing for me because it was legend that we were sending away to heaven. Millions from everywhere come and take pictures of the site and remember the impacts they both had on the world.
This a box located in Sparks Hall for concerns.
This is a rusty, red, old looking artifact that is located in Sparks Hall. This box is most likely used for comments and concerns that are possibly going on around Georgia State or going on in that specific building. I dug deeper in to the meaning of this box and I simply searched “signal box” into the google search engine. When I looked it up, all the things that came up that talked about a signal box was about a linked network that provides indoor coverage in homes. Then when I looked up what I thought the box should say (I personally thought it should say “comments box”), the things that came up where about businesses having one so they can get feedback on how they were operating or how their services are. The “signal box” in Sparks Hall looks very spooky looking. You can still feel free to drop your concerns there.
Schindler’s piece was definitely moving. She wrote about a lot of things, that me as practically still a teenager would have never realized. She caught my eye on the different features that she was explaining to us in her piece. I made a lot of connections to what she was talking about. Such as when she says,”Although the Atlanta, Georgia, metropolitan area is known for its car-centric, sprawling development patterns, it has a subway system: the Metropolitan Atlanta Regional Transit Authority (MARTA).6 Wealthy, mostly white residents of the northern Atlanta suburbs have vocally opposed efforts to expand MARTA into their neighborhoods for the reason that doing so would give people of color easy access to suburban communities. The lack of public-transit connections to areas north of the city makes it difficult for those who rely on transit—primarily the poor and people of color—to access job opportunities located in those suburbs.”(intro, paragraph 2,line 6,7, and 8) This made me think about the different troubles we are having in Atlanta with the transit today. Cobb County refuses to have anything to do with the Metropolitan Atlanta Regional Transit Authority. They have developed a different system called Cobb County Transit. When I read the things that Schindler was saying about how things were built and why they were built was telling my that obviously this is still a problem today. The ethos used in this writing, was trying to appeal to the audience as if the author was trying to show us how architects would have certain principles on how they would build these types of things surrounded by neighborhoods that were I guess you can say are more important, or private. In a certain instance, I thought as if this was done to separate the rich from the poor at first, but when I went back to where she first started to talk about the history, and after I had a better understanding of what was being said, I came to the conclusion that back then, many people thought that the African American community was poor, and the caucasian community was wealthy or rich. All in all the text was very moving, and I do recommend this as a important reading for anyone who ever takes this class because it, made be go out and look at different pathways, roads, and bridges that were around in the Metro Atlanta area. It was very understanding and it was slightly brief but very comprehensive.
This image was a screenshot of the tweet that Donald Trump put out about Dwayne Wade’s cousin, once again causing a uproar in the African American community.
Well what do you know, Donald Trump is back at it again with the harassing . He is stating that because Dwayne Wade’s cousin was shot and killed walking her baby in Chicago, he thinks just because that African Americans will vote for him now, and after he is elected that none of this stuff will happen anymore. WOW! What a way to get African Americans on your side. His emotional intelligence in this tweet is less that zero. He has no sympathy for the African American community, and from the looks of it, he never will. In my opinion he sounds legitimately sickening, and he is making himself look like a national disgrace. The horrific thing about it is, four hours later after putting the tweet out, he goes back and says,” My condolensces to Dwayne Wade and his family, on the loss of Nykea Aldridge. They are in my thoughts and prayers.” He is such a fake! Trump has been making appeals to the African American community in recent weeks. He has also said what does the African American community have to loose by supporting him. Apparently A LOT!
Hello Fellow “Georgia Statians”,
I am Sasha Williams, a 17 year old female from Atlanta. I was originally born in San Francisco, California and lived there for two years before I moved to Georgia. I love going swimming, and also playing the clarinet. I have been doing that since I was a little girl. I am also a cheerleader and my very well known high school. I have been on the drill team, and I have also participated in the golf team my freshman year. I have been dual-enrolled at Georgia State since I was in 11th Grade. Last year I was able to take classes such as Sociology, Human Geography, English 1101, and Math 1101. I attend Carver Early College on Tuesdays and Thursdays to finish up some of my high school work. The school that I plan to attend when I graduate will be University of Georgia. I want to major in pre-veterinary medicine and minor in mass communication. During these next few months of my senior year I plan to do more and more internships that will help me know more about my major and also get a little bit more research. In my new English 1102 class I plan to grow even more as a writer and a blogger and maybe learn some more serious technical stuff I don’t know yet about the web. This should bring my elements as a writer a lot higher than they already are. I already seem to enjoy the class anyway.
