Personal Site Response: Martin Luther King Memorial

The water surrounding the graves of Martin and Coretta King

The water surrounding the graves of Martin and Coretta King

This environment is a well visited memorial. It has alot of visits every year. It sends out a very captivating message to people that don’t know much about Dr.King, and gives a clear message on what he was trying to do and how he was trying to do it. Because of him, we can do things that we were not able to back in the days that he was living. This assignment made me see more than I would usually see. This memorial is very known around the world and one of the most visited places in Atlanta. The traffic is always crazy but it is always worth it.

Looking at this house brings so many memories. When I was a child I too so many trips here. I never really paid attention to detail. When I sat down, and really looked at the house closely I noticed a lot. I saw different markings on the house and nest on top of the roof from years, and years. They looked as if they had been there for a while because they had spider webs all over them. The birds outside kept landing on the porch and they would just chirp for long periods of time. From time to time there would be a large group of people that would walk and take pictures with their brand new polaroid cameras. The kids with them would ask questions and some parents would answer and some would not. A older man with a cane, came by and read the bible to the house, as if Dr. King was the house. After the man left I looked in the windows where it looked like whenever the wind blew that would move. I always new about a lot of people coming to just sit at the house. Is it possible that Dr.King’s spirit is in the house? Things that were occuring were making me question this.

When I look at this, I think of all the other entrances there are around the world of the different Dr.King monuments. What makes this one different is that it has a carved out picture of him, holding up a child. It also has a joining of hands between African Americans and Causcasions. It is a very meaningful piece of artwork, that only sculptors with a sense of a unique design could only think of.

This small monument is very captivating. Cars all over Atlanta pass this everyday. It is one of the most used sceneries of Atlanta. It is placed in the front of a very busy intersection, and it also is placed where you can see all the bright lights of downtown Atlanta. This is where the firework show is during The 4th of July. Millions stand around, under, and all over this artwork.

This is a very moving part of my visit. This is the graves of Martin, and his wife Coretta. They were a power couple that couldn’t be broken. When I was a little younger, I attended Coretta Scott’s wake, before her funeral. It was such a emotional thing for me because it was legend that we were sending away to heaven. Millions from everywhere come and take pictures of the site and remember the impacts they both had on the world.

The Signal Box in Sparks Hall: Georgia State University

This a box located in Sparks Hall for concerns.

This a box located in Sparks Hall for concerns.

This is a rusty, red, old looking artifact that is located in Sparks Hall. This box is most likely used for comments and concerns that are possibly going on around Georgia State or going on in that specific building. I dug deeper in to the meaning of this box and I simply searched “signal box” into the google search engine. When I looked it up, all the things that came up that talked about a signal box was about a linked network that provides indoor coverage in homes. Then when I looked up what I thought the box should say (I personally thought it should say “comments box”), the things that came up where about businesses having one so they can get feedback on how they were operating or how their services are. The “signal box” in Sparks Hall looks very spooky looking. You can still feel free to drop your concerns there.
