Weekly Write-Up Week #7 (10/03 and 10/05)

Weekly Write Up 10/3/17

By: Will Meehan and Ryan Wilder

Reading:  The reading on Tuesday was just review Scenario 19 which we did the week before. The reading for Thursday was from the E-textbook Successful College Composition; it was about understanding the purpose of revising and editing your work. When reading the text, you learn that revising and editing are two of the most important stages in the process of writing. Revising is when you look back at your work after writing you first rough draft. When looking over your work again you are more likely to find little things in your writing that you might want to change or add to your writing. Editing is when you polish up your writing and fix the rest of the little things you could have missed when revising your work. There were also strategies in the book that help you look at your first drafts from a new perspective which are “Take a break. You are proud of what you wrote, but you might be too close to it to make changes. Set aside your writing for a few hours or even a day until you can look at it objectively. Ask someone you trust for feedback and constructive criticism. Use the resources that your college provides. Find out where your school’s writing lab is located and ask about the assistance they provide online and in person. Pretend you are one of your readers. Are you satisfied or dissatisfied? Why?” These suggestions are all great tools for help to create a better final draft.

In class assignment/ Class Discussions

In class we went over how to find a scholarly article for essay 2.

You go to http://library.gsu.edu/ and you the use the search engine to find the article you want and you can narrow the search parameter to a certain year for ex 2015 to 2017, so you do not have an essay from 1987. There are many cool features on the website to make life easier when researching. We also had a peer a review on Thursday.
