Au revoir Spring Internship

It is the last week of my spring internship, and it went by so fast. I’ve learned so much with my current bosses, and I hope I continue to learn and take on better values for the career I will land in. For my last week, I will be doing a bunch of writing and submissions. One of the obvious assignments will be starting my internship report. Today is Wednesday, and I plan on writing a rough draft today and tomorrow so that Friday I can edit and submit it without any hassles. Besides the internship final report, I will be working on copywriting for an article. I don’t think it will take me too long to knock out those assignments. I have completed an assignment similar to it.

I have also managed to complete my certification in digital marketing. I feel like I need more teaching for SEO, Facebook Ads, Google Ads, and perhaps a little bit of Facebook Marketing. Social media is so ever-changing so I think I will need to continue learning or being taught about the materials. Next week will be my last evaluation before officially ending the spring semester internship. I am looking forward to what the summer and fall semesters will have in store for me internships or even job-wise. I plan and will graduate in December 2023, so having this amount of work experience

Thursday Evening

Yesterday, I had my last conference with the internship coordinator to discuss the semester’s final stages of the internship. I have one week left for this internship and am excited about that. This semester went by really quickly. I have so many finals and presentations to submit by the end of the semester. This week, I am working on crafting media lists and revising press releases. Crafting media lists are documents where you will create and submit a pitch for the client you represent. In my final report, I may discuss the topic more, but you are simply presenting the product that wants to be sold or branded by different outlets. I think pitches are so versatile. Pitches can be created by emails, media lists, or submissions.

The two press releases that I will be working on will possibly be my last press releases for the semester. Press releases can be hard yet very easy. It is easy because once you know the targeted audience, the client’s backstory, and the actual product you will be able to write the document. I think what makes press releases hard is coming up with the flow of the writing. You don’t want it to be straight to the point or boring. I think that’s what a cold email is for. Press releases are supposed to be persuasive and engaging to be the product or present the client being represented in a positive light.

3 Weeks Left

This week, my intern bosses gave me assignments over talk topics and research tasks. I like researching because it is fairly easy and you’re inputting information on spreadsheets. The talk topics are easier to complete than when I first started as well. At first, when I was creating talk topics, I was creating public relations strategies. PR strategies are ideas that will make your brand and social media look great. It will also bring you publicity and profit. I also have to create captions to be posted on the social media page. Creating captions has helped me understand certain gimmicks of technology. Beforehand, I didn’t know as much about Instagram and Facebook, and I have had the apps for years. Now I feel like I have a better understanding of it.

I feel like these next few weeks will be going by smoothly. Other than continuing the internship tasks, I will be trying to finish the digital marketing certification that my bosses are letting me have. I think that will make my resume look nice. I will be starting on my final report for the internship possibly next Thursday. It will be after my last meeting, and I will have plenty of time to gather the information needed to complete the report.

Week 11

Week 11 shall be interesting. This week, tomorrow to be more exact, I’ll be attending a live virtual event for my internship company’s Facebook group. For the past few weeks, I have scheduled social media captions and posts targeted at the members of the group. At first, I felt unsure about creating the captions. Social media and websites that I am not used to are never my strong suit, but as time went on, I have gotten better. I’ll be interacting with the members and progressing the virtual event along. Thankfully, I won’t have to speak and be virtually visible for others to see.

For Udemy, I am halfway done with completing my digital marketing certificate. I’ve just covered marketing for Google Ads. I knew what Google Ads were before the module, but I did not know about the ranking and the competition to broadcasting your company or product you are trying to sell. I would say it’s as important as Facebook and Instagram. This week I will be working on a press release, and I think I don’t like doing them as much as blog posts. Unless they are something I am also interested in. One of the things I am learning is when a client presents a product that wants to sell sometimes you will have something you like and other times you will not. The key will be how and when you publicize it. All press is not good press, so the way a copyeditor format the blog, press release, and whatnot is highly important.

Week 10

This week is passing by very quickly. I did not make a post last year due to spring break. Yesterday, my intern bosses decided to meet and assign me tasks. It isn’t many tasks that I am used to. It’s something I think I can finish tomorrow. Some task topics are creating captions, press releases, and pitches. In my free time, I complete some more Udemy training. I’ve mentioned this in my previous posts. Udemy training is a virtual course that caters to the teachings of digital marketing. It teaches marketing, digital tools, SEO, and much more. Currently, I just finished watching the Youtube Marketing module. I’ll be learning about the Facebook Marketing module next. One of the things I have noticed in the teachings is that canvas and excel are two contributors to digital marketing.

Besides that, I have received my student evaluation. I’ve been doing a great job in my internship. We have about a month left, and then we’ll be finished. I don’t have any cons about my internship except for getting more team members and staff to help and contribute to the brand, but my bosses are already working on that, and hiring more people. These next weeks in the internship may be about wrapping up the teachings and tasks learned and how to provide and continue learning in the real world.

The Week Before Spring Break

I’m writing my blog post earlier than I usually would because I cannot wait until spring break comes next week. For the past few weeks, I have gotten a few assignments to work on for my internships. I’m excited I get to have a break from my school courses and my internships. I hope I will feel refreshed afterward to succeed in my courses for the semester. This week, my intern tasks are specifically about copy editing. The tasks deal with copy editing emails, spreadsheets, and social media captions. Copyediting emails and spreadsheets are very easy. Once I see the template needed, I can easily complete the assignment assigned. I will also be doing more social media captions for my bosses’ Facebook accounts. I think I’m getting more comfortable posting on that site. Instagram is a little better, but nonetheless, Facebook is getting easier.

I may also complete edits or make revisions to old blog posts too. Blog posts are getting easier for me. I have been practicing where to format and write out the subjects for the targeted audience the client wants to release. The internship has been teaching me a lot, and I hope to practice more on copy editing and/or copywriting. Pitches are also something I want to work on. I want to do more tasks about SEO, outreach emails, and pitches. I think these concepts are important to learn because they will be used outside of copywriting. They will be used in the public relation, publishing, media, and marketing industries.

Halfway Completed

Overall, the spring semester is going by so quickly. It’s already “midterms”, or rather the midpoint of the semester. I’m so happy I don’t have actually tests that I have to take. It’s just been essays or written/oral exams. I guess that’s a perk to being so close to graduating with an English degree. I just have one more year to go. This week, my tasks were quite simple. I had to do a blog post. It was actually a revision to the blog post I completed last week. I think this one is way better. Grammarly has been a helpful tool to look over the final edits or typos I may have before submitting my final work. I should have downloaded it sooner. Besides this blog post, I’ve just had research and copyediting spreadsheets to complete.

Social media captions are easier to create with Instagram than on Facebook. Not that Facebook is harder, but I think I prefer Instagram. I like planning the posts and captions on a website called Planoly better. I don’t know if I have mentioned this in my other blogs on this site but my internship boss is letting me complete a digital marketing certification on Udemy. The program has been teaching me different stuff too. Right now, I’m learning SEO, which is search engine optimization. There are about 19 sections to learn, and I’m only on 6. I’ve been so busy, but I’m hoping to finish by the end of the semester.

Another Week as an Intern

Another week has ended working with TGND Consulting. My bosses have been teaching me a lot about the copywriting and public relations business. It wasn’t until this week that I actually learned about Grammarly. Grammarly is a site that auto-corrects typos, grammar mistakes, and other writing mistakes. It has been a lifesaver this week for submitting blogs, pitches, etc. It got me wondering why haven’t these professors haven’t brought it up for their students. Don’t they want us to not have typos or fewer spelling mistakes? Unfortunately, that’s Georgia State University for you. My tasks for this week are less work due to last week having to complete more assignments to make up for the lack of intern hours.

This week was centered around scheduling posts, making edits to captions, and responding to interview questions. I feel like this internship has brought out more of my research skills than ever before. I can look up a client or person better than I used to because of the constant need for it. Researching is needed everywhere. I don’t know why but I used to think research is more used for medical, psychological, or teaching purposes for educational professions or students. Researching is used for writing, copywriting, public relations, marketing, social media, and just about anything needed for papers, scripts, and media.

Week 5

I’m very impressed with my time management skills because I had a lot of intern tasks to do this week. In the previous week, it was more about researching information and/or clients for PR events. This week, my tasks were more focused on social media captions and posting. I was more nervous about completing these assignments because I’m not used to creating content such as these. I have social media, but I don’t really post as other people my age would post on their Instagram, Tiktok, Facebook, etc. I share more on my stories but with my close friends. I really had to tap into my creative side to come up with hooks and catchy phrases when I was writing the texts for the captions. Luckily, the captions I completed are not scheduled as of yet, so whatever I need to improve on I will know or can edit before they publish it online. With all the nervousness, I do think I still did good. I don’t remember stating in my previous blogs but my article/blog post was published on the TGND Consulting website not that long ago. I was beyond excited! Also, the grand opening of Djuan’s Restaurant was great this past Saturday. It was many people who came out, and I think the owner will end up having to create reservations soon when he opens to the public officially. Overall, I’m enjoying the progress of my internship.

Week 4

I don’t have much to say or report about this week, internship task wise. It’s been a busy week for my intern bosses because this week is a grand opening for a New Orleans restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia. The only things I had to do for this week specifically, pertaining to the event, is copying and pasting the bloggers and media. I also added contact information for them too. I’m excited about this Saturday to enjoy the event. It’s also Superbowl weekend, and right before Valentine’s Day, so I know the owner will be getting a lot of publicity and income for his opening. I did my first outreach email for another task. It may not be seen as much but I researched how to format one, and there are so many different types. There are cold emails, warm emails, emails for bloggers, and pitching brands. I decided on a cold email to write. For next week, I’ll begin revising my resume and cover letters for summer internships. I hope I can get a paid summer internship for Warner Bros., Disney, or even the Atlanta Journal. Copy writing is so broad and can be fluid that you can branch into different industries. So far, I’ve been liking the public relations and media industry. It is very different and is fun to go to the events you worked hard for.
