Built Environment Description: Exterior

Turner Field, located in Atlanta, is the home of the Atlanta Braves baseball team. However, it was originally not made for them. In 1996, the Summer Olympics would come to Atlanta. Turner Field originally held 85,000 people and was called Centennial Olympic Stadium. After the Olympics were over, they would reconstruct the field to make it into a baseball stadium and it would be given to the Braves. As you go to the stadium, you can see that across the street the Atlanta Fulton County Stadium used to be there. It is now a parking lot to Turner Field where it also contains the fence that Hank Aaron broke the homerun record from Babe Ruth. When I entered the stadium, I was surprised that it was opened. I guess that since it is technically a ‘park’ it was open but I could not go into the field or anything. In the stadium, it seems like a typical MLB stadium. It has many Braves symbols all over the place. There are statues of players like Hank Aaron and Phil Niekro. There are also numbers of players who have importance to the Braves. There are people like former 3rd baseman Chipper Jones, pitcher John Smoltz, pitcher Tom Glavine, and an overall MLB retirement Jackie Robison. After viewing this site, I can understand why so many fans enjoy it. It seems very open and friendly. Many people can learn about the history of the stadium and players before they even go to watch the game. However, this will the last year of Turner Field for the Atlanta Braves as the team decided to move its stadium to Cobb County. It will now be occupied but Georgia State. Turner Field will always be one of the greatest baseball parks in the MLB.
