Teal, Randall.” The Process of Place: A Temporal View of Sustainability in the Built Environment.” Environmental Philosophy 7.1(2010):63-77. Environment Complete. Web 5 Fed.2016

In Teal’s article, he discusses sustainability in an environment. He discusses the types of issues, like global warming and peak oil, and how we need to find better solutions than what we have now. The author explains that we have more sustainable designs in communities so that they can look prettier. It will allow communities to be more technological innovated. He calls sustainability a movement that will take time for people to understand but once they do, the communities will be a better place for families. From this article, I learned that nothing is really solved in our environment. There are still many issues to be solved and they will take time to fix. I chose this article because it explains issues that could affect a certain environment. It does have a flaw however in the sense that it was a little complex with its vocabulary but I was able to read through it. It is similar to the source I found by Perdue because they both deal with environmental issues that affects a city.

Perdue, Wendy C., Lawrence O. Gostin, and Lesley A. Stone. “Public Health and the Built Environment: Historical, Empirical, and Theoretical Foundations for an Expanded Role” Journal of Law, Medicine & Ethics 31.4 (2003): 557-566. Academic Search Complete. Web. 5 Feb. 2016

This article explains how the public health in a community affects urban planning. It goes as far back as the 1800s to describe how companies had to wait on a public health report before they considered the layout of a town. The author then discusses the present day as he explains that infectious diseases has died down in urban cities. However, we have more chronic diseases. With the rise of these diseases, the government has had to take over. The government is capable of doing things like increasing taxes on companies who has high pollution so that people with asthma can be more comfortable in the city. With changes like this in urban living, the city will slowly becoming a more welcoming place. From this article, I learned that cities are working on having healthier environments for people to live in. I chose it because I was able to understand it clearly. It explained the public history from the past to the present. It explained how things are getting better in urban living yet there are still some things to be worked on. I do not believe that this article has any flaws because it explains all points of views.

Reitzes, Donald C., Crimmins,Timothy J., Yarbroug, Johanna, Parker, Josie. “Social support and social network ties among the homeless in a downtown Atlanta park” Journal of Community Psychology 39.3 (2011): 274-291 Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection. Web. 5 Feb. 2016

In this article, a group of people are doing a research project by being a part of a social network/ social support. They visits Woodruff Park in Atlanta that is filled with homeless people. Their mission was to understand how they became homeless, who currently supports them now, and to evaluate their lives. The researchers explain four types of support (tangible support, advice support, belonging, and esteem) that these homeless people have received from either other homeless people or just everyday people who goes through the park. From their findings, the researchers finds that all these people need is some support from other. I chose this source because it demonstrates a space in Atlanta that people live in regardless that it is actual a public place. It is similar to book that we had to read for reading responses “The Tunnel”. I do not believe that this article has flaws because it demonstrates a place that people live in.
