ARTIST PRESENTATION

Elizabeth Peyton

Presentation By Savannah Lambert

Born and raised in Danbury Connecticut in 1965, exact birthday unknown and no information on the media that she has passed away yet. She now lives In Long Island New York and Berlin. Elizabeth attended art school in New York as well.

Studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, graduating with her BFA in 1987. Many people say she has similar art works to Andy Warhol, Eduardo Manet, and John Singer Sargent, though never specified herself as she seems to be pretty private.

Theres a lot of emotional detail emulated with her use of color. The colors are so vivid yet different and creates contrast best known for figures within her life including her close friends or historical personae, icons of modern contemporary culture ( my favorite being Bella and Edward from Twilight) or other different types of artists, writers, and actors such as Kurt Cobain to Kanye West.

There is just something about the realistic shapes of the objects and people she paints coincided with the unrealistic vivid colors that aren’t usually seen in real life on these everyday people and objects quite like they are in the paintings that really makes me enjoy her artwork. My only way to describe it in my eyes is like a lens that I wish I could wear in glasses and walk around viewing the world with because it makes life so much more intriguing and vivid than it really is. I tried to bring in this realistic human form of painting within mine while simultaneously using a variation of vivid colors to bring these more life.

Fun fact about Elizabeth Peyton: She was born with just her forefinger and thumb on her right hand so she paints and draws with her left hand.
