1. If I were an employee at Microsoft receiving this letter, I may have not even bothered to continue reading after the first paragraph. But, if I had chosen to read through the entire lifeless transcript I would have been infuriated concerning the manner in which the company chose to inform me of my unemployment. Elop fails in establishing kairos because he does not focus on the audience and topic that is of highest concern. The majority of  this letter provides information about the companies business model and production concerns even though its underlying purpose is to inform employees of their contract terminations. This is very insulting to the audience, who are made to feel as a by product of business. There is little to no empathy or focus on the lives that are affected.
  2. The employees would prefer to read a much more empathetic letter that focuses on their personal situation rather than the situation of the company.
