Project III :Additive

recycled being/ quiet/ Charcoal/ eraser 2025

Quiet project- For this project we were assigned to find an object that resonated with us that felt “quiet.” I felt art was something that helped make my mind quiet or focused. When my mind is racing I can direct my thoughts to an image making them feel “quiet.” I was going to choose my ipad or a sketchbook but I wanted to try something a little bit  more textured and shaped. I don’t paint often but when I do my mind feels the slowest out of any other medium so I thought a paint bottle would be perfect for capturing “quiet” I used compressed charcoal and erased when needed. My peers surprised me because I thought it would be obvious that it was paint but I should have considered that it might have looked like lotion or any other liquid in a tube. This project helped to make me think creatively when deciding a subject.

Recycled being- This assignment required a surprising element-crafting. We were given the task of designing a character out of recycled materials. I first brainstormed what I wanted my being looked like. I felt like I was a mad scientist so I think my mind intuitively felt like making a robot. I was feeling a military war robot plan. Once I made it, I began to use charcoal slowly making each texture. This projected practiced the art of mimicking different textures. It’s unlikely that every person had one texture for their recycled being, so you would have to make sure the textures are distinct. The varying textures made me take longer than I normally would. I especially had many metallic textures that took up most of my time. My peers noticed this as well and I took notice of everyone’s uniquely textured beings.
