Russell Jeter, PhD
Assistant Professor
Russell received his Ph.D. from Georgia State University in Mathematics and followed this with a postdoctoral fellowship at Emory University in the Department of Biomedical Informatics. Afterwards, he served as Director of Analytics and Software Engineering for Motus Nova. He joined the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at GSU in 2024.
He enjoys hiking, running, listening to music, watching football (gridiron and soccer), and spending quality time with friends and family.
His lab’s research focuses on developing advanced machine learning models and methods to solve complex healthcare problems and build large scale learning tools.
Tommy Stell, MS
Graduate Student (PhD Mathematics)
“I am a current Ph.D student in Mathematics with a concentration of Machine Learning and Data Science at Georgia State University in Atlanta.
Outside of academic work, I enjoy baking, cooking, board games, and trying new restaurants, all with my lovely wife.”
Yiran Xu, MS
Graduate Student (PhD Mathematics)
“I am a PhD student in Mathematics at Georgia State University, with expertise in computational tools like MATLAB, Linux, LaTeX, and Python for addressing challenging problems. Prior to my PhD, I completed an MSc in Physical Oceanography at the University of Alberta, where I studied how river regulation and climate change influence freshwater systems using numerical modeling.
Now, I am diving into the world of data science, combining my passion for mathematics, machine learning, and healthcare to bridge theory with practical applications.
Outside of academics, I enjoy hiking, swimming, and discovering new music —it is a great way to recharge and stay inspired!”
Angelo Boateng
Graduate Student (MS Mathematics)
“I am currently pursuing my master’s (MS) degree in mathematics with a concentration in bioinformatics.
Generally, I am interested in exploring mathematical biology, mathematical modeling, and other related fields that apply mathematical science to life sciences.
Fun fact: I love playing football (soccer) and watching as well; I also love cooking.”
Minjuan Meng, MS
Graduate Student (MS Statistics)
“I am a Master’s student in Applied Statistics at Georgia State University with hands-on experience in data analysis tools such as Python, SAS, and R Studio. Previously, I held impactful roles, including Program Manager at the Construction Science Design Institute, where I successfully led various projects.
In my free time, I enjoy swimming, hiking, playing video games, and spending quality time with my family.”
