Instructions for Requesting Transcripts for Law School Applications

For GSU pre-law students, the most confusing part of the law school application process is requesting official transcripts from the GSU Academic Records department (found in the University Registrar’s office). You need an official transcript sent to the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) from GSU Academic Records so that its authenticity is verified and you can include the transcript in your application materials when you send them out through LSAC’s Credential Assembly Service (CAS). (Upon receipt, LSAC will upload your transcript to CAS for you.) The problem stems from the fact that the instructions on the LSAC.org website make it sound as though you must request your transcript from the GSU Academic Records through LSAC.org. But that isn’t exactly how it works at GSU…

Instead, you will request your official transcript directly from GSU Academic Records following the normal process (instructions below) followed by all GSU students or alumni. After that you will email GSU Academic Records a special Transcript Request Form (which you acquire from LSAC.org) and then Academic Records will send your official transcript attached to the Transcript Request Form to LSAC for you. This is confusing, of course, because it would seem as though something called a “Transcript Request Form” is what you use to request your transcript. Adding more confusion, the LSAC.org website says “you must use LSAC’s Transcript Request Forms when requesting transcripts from your institutions.” But that isn’t precisely how the system works at GSU. So, here are the specific instructions for requesting your official transcript and having it sent to LSAC for uploading to CAS:

CURRENT STUDENTS

  1. Log in to GOSOLAR with your Student ID and password (same as logging into your email).
  2. Select “Student Records Menu” third from the top.
  3. Select “Transcript Ordering Site” fifth from the top.
  4. Click the blue link that says “Access the Transcript Ordering Site”.
  5. Follow the steps through for an Official Paper Mailed Copy. (If you have exhausted your 5 free lifetime request, you will be prompted to pay $10 for each transcript you request.)
  6. Once the order is complete, go to the LSAC.org’s CAS page about requesting transcripts: http://www.lsac.org/jd/applying-to-law-school/cas/requesting-transcripts . (If you have not already set up a CAS account, you will need to do that before proceeding.)
  7. Follow the instructions on that page under the heading “How to Access Your Transcript Request Forms.”
  8. Email your Transcript Request Form to transcriptattach@gsu.edu.

FORMER STUDENTS

  1. Visit the Former Student Ordering site at https://www.gosolar.gsu.edu/bprod/wslogin.GetSSN?P_menu_sel_in=B
  2. Log in by filling in the personal information asked of you. (If you are having issues logging in, contact Academic Records so they can resolve the issue.)
  3. Click the blue link that says “Access the Transcript Ordering Site”.
  4. Follow the steps through for an Official Paper Mailed Copy. (If you have exhausted your 5 free lifetime request, you will be prompted to pay $10 for each transcript you request.)
  5. Once the order is complete, go to the LSAC.org’s CAS page about requesting transcripts: http://www.lsac.org/jd/applying-to-law-school/cas/requesting-transcripts . (If you have not already set up a CAS account, you will need to do that before proceeding.)
  6. Follow the instructions on that page under the heading “How to Access Your Transcript Request Forms.”
  7. Email your Transcript Request Form to transcriptattach@gsu.edu.

Please Note: You will need transcripts sent to CAS from all colleges you have attended. If you attended any institution besides GSU, you will need to contact those institutions to learn how their system works. It is likely different from the system here at GSU.
