Adventure games are a significant genre in the video game world, but their history is rarely appreciated by the broad world of video game fans. In this Playtest, we will look at the long lineage of adventure game design from its origins in Colossal Cave Adventure to its heyday in the Sierra Online classics to its revitalization in the current Telltale era. Adventure games both help us trace game history and allow us to talk about shifting game mechanics over the course of the last 40 years. This Playtest session will be about understanding what adventure games have given the wider world of game design during that time period. We’ll be playing Colossal Cave Adventure, Police Quest, and The Walking Dead.
