Piano Master Class: Guest Artist Dr. Zeynep Ucbasaran

Dr. Zeynep Ucbasaran is a concert pianist who started her music studies at age four at the Istanbul Conservatory.  She has a Concert Artist Diploma from the Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest.   She  obtained her MA and DMA degrees in Piano Performance from the University of Southern California. Her awards include American Liszt Society Award, Rozsnyai Memorial Award, Ina Broida Award from UCSB, and USC Associates Music Merit Scholarship.  She is also a recipient of the MAA 2001 Aspen Summer Music Festival Scholarship, where she was selected to play in the distinguished artist Master Class of Leon Fleisher.  Dr. Ucbasaran was a prize-winner in the 1996 and 2000 Los Angeles Liszt Competitions.  She was designated a “woman of distinction in the year 2003” by the Daughters of Ataturk organization in the US. She has given many recitals and concerts in Turkey, Hungary, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, England, Egypt, Estonia, Slovenia, Lithuenia, Belarus, and in the United States. Her Wigmore Hall debut in London was in November 2004.

Leanne, Brian and Eric were former graduate school classmates at Louisiana State University. Leanne is now the general director of Opera Louisiane, the opera company in Baton Rouge, LA; Brian is a voice professor and Assistant Chair at Perimeter College; Eric is a coach/pianist for opera companies throughout the Southeast. Join them for the Atlanta area performance of their recital tour – a varied concert of opera arias (by Verdi) and duet (La gioconda), Brahms duets, art song and cabaret, and even a little musical theater.

The DeKalb Symphony Orchestra (DSO) plays up to 8 concerts each year including the Subscription Series, Children’s Concert, Picnic Pops Concerts, Free Community Concerts, and special performances. DSO has been housed since its inception at Georgia Perimeter College in Clarkston (now known as Perimeter College of Georgia State University’s Clarkston Campus); however DSO is a regional organization and is not limited to DeKalb County in its service, operations or personnel. DeKalb Symphony Orchestra is a member of the League of American Orchestras and the Atlanta Coalition for the Performing Arts.

Amy Leventhal’s Compositions

Amy Leventhal received her Master’s in Music Composition from Georgia State University in December 2015. Ms. Leventhal studied with Composer Nikitas Demos. The Dekalb Symphony will be performing her work, Impressions from Japan for string orchestra, this 2016-2017 season. Ms. Leventhal just finished composing two pieces for viola; Sarah at the Beach for viola and piano and Our Mulberry Tree for bassoon, viola, and piano. Ms. Leventhal was Assistant Principal Violist with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra from 1990-2009.
