In order to move the children toward writing complete words during the Letter Learning phase, there are activities to build letter-sound correspondence, practice writing letters, and start the children thinking about spelling whole words. The Missing Letter lessons provide practice in the skills of identifying the sounds of a word, then writing the missing letter, and at the same time, correctly writing the letter. Additionally, we introduce the spelling of sight words frequently used in text written by children. Language Arts programs often focus on the reading of sight words, but not the writing and spelling of these words.
