Size

The second icon that is taught is the size icon. Students learn to decide if the written letter is too big, too small, or just right in size. The motion for too big is that students spread their arms far apart. For too little, then hold their hands close together. Just right is folded hands. Here, the teacher focuses the students on the size of the letters made. Coaches learn to look at the top, middle, and bottom lines, and whether the written letter goes beyond these lines to make the letter too big, too small, or just right. Students should learn to state exactly which part of the letter they think is incorrect. For example, in the letter “d”, the tall down line might be fine, but the circle might be too small by not touching both the middle and bottom lines.
