The Perimeter College Jazz Ensemble, directed by Associate Professor of Music, Greg McLean, is one of the “large” ensembles available to Perimeter College students.
Since 1975 when this group was founded it has been comprised of student, semi-professional and professional musicians. Due to new state regulations, all members of Perimeter College ensembles are required to be students. For this reason our ensemble is a smaller band. Many of our community players went through the process of becoming admitted to Perimeter College and registering for the jazz ensemble course. This is no easy task as any college student will attest. However, these players appreciate the level of musical challenge they get from playing in the PC Jazz Ensemble. Some of the members have been with us twenty years or longer, and at least two members were in the inaugural group and returned after
various work and life commitments.
PC Jazz members come from all corners of metro Atlanta. Many of our players have music degrees or have studied music as an avocation. All of them share a love of big band music and the PC Jazz Ensemble offers its members a chance to perform a wide variety of standard jazz tunes and originals written by many of the top arrangers and composers in the big band idiom. Our goal is to entertain our audience, but to educate them as well. Looking forward to seeing you at the next concert.
