Paris & Revolutionary Fever Day 1: Lachaise & Sacre Coeur

Today was a full day. I walked from the area where I was staying near Notre Dame to the Eiffel Tower, stopping along the way at the Palace of Justice and the Louvre.

Once I met up with the group, Liz, Fletcher, Nicole, and I set out on our scavenger hunt to Lachaise Cemetery and the Sacre Coeur. At Lachaise, the grave of Oscar Wilde was a must-see for me. I love Dorian Gray and have previously visited several sites in Ireland dedicated to Wilde. We also visited the grave of Jim Morrison which had interesting array of mementos—notice the Kronenberg perched atop the stone.

I have been to the Sacre Coeur before and remembered that it is on top of a hill. We walked up the hill only to realize that the picture we wanted was at the bottom of the hill, so we Jack-and-Jill’d it down again to get great photos as the sun was setting.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s French Revolution walking tour. I’m interested to see what sites we visit and am hoping the ruins of the Bastille are included.
