Today we had a lovely outdoor tour on a few locations in Paris and their history in the French Revolution.
The tour was overflowing with information; actors or agents in the revolution weâd discussed before like Robespierre, and some we havenât have like Danton, Marrat, Barras, Charlotte Corday, what an extreme chaos factor the mobs of Paris were, emphasis on that this kind of revolution â one in which the existing monarchy was ripped out and replaced entirely over â had never been seen before, and more.
Our tour went from the statue of Danton to the pathway leading to the Paris mob Marratâs rabble rouser newspaper, the Procope Cafe where revolutionary clubs met, and discussed the creation of the guillotine â just in time for Louis XVI.
From the guillotine, to Napoleonâs unpaid wine bills and crazy hyper inflation from assignat bonds, we took a look at the monestary where Marratâs body was displayed and the mobs took him for a martyr.
Napoleon would leave his hat for debts claiming he would come back for it â and wind up never coming back to get it. He was recruited in the depths of his debt by Barras, and saved the day from the royalist in a bloody massacre using grapeshot in a cannon.
