Respondus Monitor and Finals

1) How do I set up a test that requires Respondus Monitor?
Review How to set up a test to require Respondus Monitor for steps on setting up an iCollege exam so that it requires Respondus Monitor. The instructions for how you can take the exam as a student are also included. The last page of the document explains how you can give access to other websites while testing.

2) Where is a link that I can give to my students for installing the LockDown Browser?
When a student opens an iCollege test that requires Respondus Monitor, they will have a link to download and install the lockdown browser or to launch the browser. There is no direct link that you need to share with your students.

3) How can students test out their computers to make sure they can run Respondus Monitor?
It is strongly advised that you create a sample quiz in iCollege that is set up to require Respondus Monitor so that your students can test out whether or not they can successfully complete a quiz.

4) How can I view the student video recordings for an exam?
Go to Quizzes in iCollege and click on the Lockdown Browser tab. Then expand the menu for the appropriate exam and select Class Results. Click on the + sign to the left of a student’s name to see the video recording and thumbnail images of the recordings.

5) Can I give my final exam in WebAssign, MyLab, etc?
For consistency and security, all students are required to make use of a lockdown browser and a webcam while taking their final exam. If your 3rd party software has the capability to lock down the browser and record a student while testing at no additional cost, then you can use that platform to give the exam.

You can have students go through a “final exam shell” in iCollege that requires them to use Respondus Monitor to confirm their identity but then links out to WebAssign, Top Hat, or MyLab. This will record students as they test but will give students access to other materials in their 3rd party software. More testing is needed on this to work out the details, but I think that we can make sure of both tools to administer a final exam. (Page 5 of this document describes this process.)

6) Do I need to use Respondus to create a test that requires Respondus Monitor?

No, exams do not have to be created using Respondus 4.0 to require Respondus Monitor. Respondus Monitor can be added as a requirement for any quiz that is in iCollege.

Respondus 4.0 is a tool for authoring exams that enables instructors to import Word versions of exams which can then be exported to iCollege. If you want to use Respondus 4.0, see Respondus Installation and License Information in the Instructor Resources from your iCollege homepage. All equations on exams created with Respondus 4.0 are imported as images in iCollege which is why this is not my preferred method for creating exams. See https://web.respondus.com/he/respondus/ for more information.

7) How do I insert a link to a Formula Sheet on a quiz/test that requires Respondus Monitor?
