PROJECT 2 – SUBTRACTIVE SCULPTURE

Reef of the Heart, September 2021

Floral foam, plaster

The goal of this project was to use floral foam to create an abstract subtractive sculpture. The initial sketch was inspired by a teardrop (the action of crying is something I struggle with showing). Clearly, it evolved into something else entirely, but I wasn’t disappointed with the outcome. It ended up looking like a combination of a coral reef and a human heart, hence the name “reef of the heart.” I wanted to paint it with a turquoise and red colour palette, but I ran out of plaster, so I didn’t get to the paint part by the time the deadline came.
