We started out by creating a monochromatic value scale with black and white paint, creating nine squares of value. The first square is painted white while the ninth square is painted black.

The actual assignment consisted of learning to isolate areas of value in a black and white self-portrait photograph.

Me feeling uncomfortable with having to show my face, I was allowed to choose a different photo other than myself. I chose a photo I took during my visit to my relatives in Florida in the summer of 2020.
