The first idea that might come to someone’s mind by just simply glancing at the title and picture of this article is , a color run/walk. In a color run people end up all covered in color from paint/ paint powder being thrown them. However, “color walking” as described in Bennin and McMullan’s article is a completely different concept from the one intended by a color run.

Color walking is basically walking based on your eyes, instead of walking for the purpose of reaching a final destination. When one decides to engage in a color walk, it requires a full emersion. No distractions, “uninterrupted time, no commutes, no errands, just eye time.” Once you have gotten rid of all distractions you just “[p]ick a color, or let a color pick you–follow the one that makes your heart go thump-thump.” Once you pick a color or one has caught your attention you just follow the color. Whether it is a purple hat someone is wearing, or a red car speeding down the road, you follow it and observe where it takes you. While you can stick with the same color all through out the walk, you can also change it up. Once you lose your color or get tired of it you are free to choose another color.

Color walking is an interesting concept because it allows you explore your surroundings in a different way. You might even discovered a place you had never even heard about. So the next time you go for a walk, try to make it interesting by simply following a color. “If you get lost, pick another color. If you get really lost, you’re on the right track”
