Nasrullah, Hayat, Fazle, and Nosheen from various universities, in “Usefulness of Library Resources Utilization by B.E.d. Students in Private Sector Universities in Khyberpahtoonkwa, Pakistan,” discuss “the utilizations of existing resources of the libraries of private universities.” Through a study and analysis, done on students and libraries the truth about libraries was collected. The objectives of the study were:
1. To examine the availability of existing resources in library.
2. To assess the utilization of these resources by students of B.Ed.
3. To point out the problems faced by the students in access to library.
4. To find out students’ trends regarding the utilization of Library.
Before the study many students claimed that they used the library regularly and that they found it very helpful. However, the study showed something totally different. “The results showed that libraries were under-utilized despite students expressed willingness for using libraries.” Students greatly benefit from the libraries because they are able to expand their knowledge outside of the class by being able to do additional research. “Libraries are one of the important resources, if not the most important, in securing maximum from a well-designed academic programme.” Libraries allow us to see “information through books, journals, maps and other records items that are used by students in their learning process.” The article both describes the benefits of a library and the actual use of a library. While a library has many resources available to students, libraries are “under-utilized”. “Student mostly [visit] library for reading books, preparation of assignment and consume spare time.”
The article serves to show the resources a library has to offer, and how those resources are seen or viewed. The intended audience I would say are mainly students and professors, because the study was conducted on the activity of students in the library. The study allows the audience to better understand why might libraries be overlooked, and how its resources are not used to the best of its abilities.
