Early Life

Britney Spears was born on December 2, 1981, in McComb, Mississippi. She took singing and dancing lessons since she was three years old, so she was basically born a performer. Her and her family moved to New York so that Spears could attend the Professional Performing Arts School and further her musical skills. Spears was an understudy for the musical, “Ruthless!”, and a star on the Mickey Mouse Club show in 1992. Spear’s mother urged her to get into singing, so she eventually put out a demo hoping to get signed to a label, but at the time record labels were looking for pop groups, so she was unable to sign right away. After much persistence, she was finally able to sign with Jive Records.

Career

Spears hit the top of the charts with her debut single, “Baby One More Time”. She had much success with her music following, but she was ridiculed for her choice of showy outfits for her music videos and photo shoots, as she was still young. Britney continued to have hit after hit topping the charts, and she even had a hit in the movie, “Crossroads”. In 2003, Spears had controversy again for kissing Madonna onstage along with Christina Aguilera. Spear’s album, “Blackout”, put out in 2007 was her first album to not immediately hit number one on the American charts; it was number two. Spears also appeared on TV shows like, How I Met Your Mother, Will and Grace, Glee, and Jane the Virgin.

Personal Life

Like many celebrities, Spears lived much of her personal life in the spotlight. She dated Justin Timberlake, but they broke up and in 2002 Timberlake came out with a song, “Cry Me a River”, which was aimed at Spears. She later married her long time friend Jason Alexander; their marriage lasted 55 minutes. Spears later married Kevin Federline, with whom she had two children with: Sean Preston and Jayden James; Spears and Federline later divorced in 2006, causing Spears to have a very public breakdown. She had to do rehab multiple times for drug addiction, and ultimately lost custody of her children. She was also seen with a shaven head and was institutionalized for mental health problems and placed under her father’s custody in 2007.
