I have recently have been promoted to maintenance manager at my work. I was a supervisor over second shift I have seen many managers come in and fail. I was asked to step up to the challenge of taking a morale broken team of over worked mechanics and get our equipment run better. The biggest challenge that I have faced is having the mechanics own what they have done. I was faced with machines that have a patchwork of quick fixes done to them instead of quality repairs. This truism is now posted all over the maintenance shop to remind them to own the machines. This assignment has helped me professionally by making me think about my issues that face me at work.
I really like your thoughts and your reasoning behind your Truism. I feel like that is a problem for everyone in the world and they should realize it a make a change. I believe people find it easier to blame someone else or make excuses instead of owning up to what they have done wrong. This is a very real Truism that everyone should apply to their life.
That’s great! I’m glad – I think your sign will go a long way toward helping promote more personal pride in the work that is done but it’s your positive and motivating attitude that will unite your team and help you get where you want to go. Congrats on the promotion and good work on the truism.
I can relate to this truism as I use to work as a powersports technician. Comebacks are the vein of a managers existence. There isn’t really any getting around it. If you did the work, you have to own it.
You have a strong sense of responsibility. Holing yourself or other people accountable is not always easy. Well done.
This is awesome. I definitely think that people should own up to what they have done, whether it may be bad or good. I know the truth hurts, but some things are meant to be said. Maybe you face issues at work, but this is great having positive reinforcement wherever you may look. Never give up!
