Week 14- update
This week, I dedicated significant effort to refining my website. Inspired by YouTube tutorials, I revisited the site with the intention of achieving a more standardized aesthetic. By analyzing the websites of my classmates, I gleaned valuable insights into creating a cohesive visual experience. My initial modifications focused on the banner. I opted to incorporate a declaration of my professional identity as a photographer. Subsequently, I revised the text within the “About Me” and “Portfolio” sections, aiming to cultivate a professional tone suitable for a freelance artist seeking collaborative opportunities. Further refinement involved a shift in the banner content. I replaced the generic website name with my own, establishing a more personal brand identity.
Throughout the week, my primary objective revolved around enhancing the visual layout. Specifically, I prioritized an “organic” and organized presentation of my portfolio. This involved restructuring the photography to reflect genre categories – a stark contrast to the previous social media and video listing format. Having revitalized the descriptions within the “About Me” and “Portfolio” sections, I proceeded to address the imagery. My goal was to showcase a broader spectrum of myself visually. This encompassed both depictions of my professional activities and portraits that cultivate a sense of approachability. Particular emphasis was placed on elevating the writing within the “About Me” section. The revised descriptions are geared towards potential collaborators and strive for a more sophisticated, polished tone.
While I have made significant progress, future enhancements are envisioned. These include the incorporation of a dedicated “Links” page, rectification of the homepage title, minor adjustments to the “About Me” section for optimal flow, and the addition of in-depth, comprehensive descriptions throughout the website. Overall, I possess a newfound confidence in my website and its ability to effectively showcase my work. The completion of this project fills me with a sense of accomplishment, and I am eager to share the final product as a linkable representation of my creative endeavors.
Week 13 update
This week, I dedicated my efforts to refining the updates on my portfolio since the last iteration. I believe my portfolio is essentially complete now, but I delved into enhancing its visual appeal by exploring different images and researching various code snippets for alternative layouts. Through experimentation, I found that I’m content with the current layout, yet I’m considering tweaking the color scheme in the upcoming week for added vibrancy. Moreover, I’ve been diligently crafting more comprehensive descriptions for each portfolio item. These descriptions now include details such as the specific camera and lens used, as well as insights into the lighting setup. I believe it’s crucial to convey my technical expertise and range to my audience effectively.
Looking forward, my agenda for next week includes expanding upon my portfolio’s content by incorporating links to the skits I’ve created, alongside showcasing my refined editing skills. This additional multimedia element will provide visitors with a more holistic view of my capabilities. Since there wasn’t a specific email prompt or directive in our weekly message, I dedicated considerable time to refining my portfolio through rigorous workshopping sessions. My aim during this process is to transition from overly embellished language to a more professional yet creatively engaging tone.
Reflecting on the week, I’m pleased with the tremendous productivity I’ve achieved in laying out clear objectives for the upcoming weeks. This focused approach ensures that I’m continuously evolving and refining my portfolio to better showcase my skills and expertise.
Week 12 update
This week for my portfolio update, I focused on removing unnecessary text from my pages. I also drafted more creative headers or templates to enhance the visual appeal. To showcase my talents in a diverse way, I’m working on creating more text-based content for my page, including poems, screenplays, and more. Additionally, I’ve begun elaborating on the photos I’ve taken and plan to update their descriptions next week. I have also been asking for help from my sister who has coded with this site on templates to find something that fits the brand I want to curate. A lot of this week was spent doing research on my ideas to improve it over the weekend and next week.
I spent some time this week researching different website templates. My goal is to make my portfolio website distinct from my blog. I’m looking for ways to achieve a uniform and professional look, similar to other high-quality websites I’ve encountered.
Next week, I plan to update my homepage with a clearer image. I’m currently searching for a high-resolution image that resizes well for the designated space.
Week 11- update 3/22
This week, I focused on updating my website. To begin, I cataloged outstanding tasks. I initiated the process by enriching my skills section with content. For instance, under photography, I showcased various examples such as sports, graduation, and wedding photography. Ensuring that the images maintained their true proportions within the section was my next challenge. Subsequently, I delved into elucidating my language proficiency percentages, utilizing Gemini to craft professional terminology. My primary aim in refining my website is to foster collaboration and attract potential employers’ attention.
In the upcoming week, I plan to delve deeper into enhancing my photo captions, aiming for a more polished website aesthetic rather than a blog-like appearance. Additionally, I augmented the portfolio and upcoming projects sections with relevant photos. Moving forward, I intend to elaborate further on my forthcoming projects.
I also devoted time to enhancing the website’s functionality by editing code in response to this week’s email prompt.
Looking ahead to my goals for next week, I aspire to expand my future objectives, incorporating more multimedia elements such as plays, videos, and social media integration. Drawing inspiration from various YouTube videos, I seek to refine the skills listed on my website to better align with employers’ expectations, eliminating filler content in favor of genuinely valuable skills.
Week 6- Make it your own
This week’s assignment was quite time-consuming, but starting early definitely helped me manage it. It took me the entire week, from Tuesday to Thursday, to complete. Throughout the week, I meticulously compared my assignment to the B plus standard, focusing on various aspects. I carefully selected images from the recommended photo apps, ensuring they fit well within the designated space. However, I’m still on the lookout for more images that align with a professional portfolio. Additionally, I’m enhancing the descriptions under my “About Me” section to reflect a more professional tone.
I’m currently contemplating the direction of my portfolio and website—whether to lean more towards writing or acting. I aim to showcase all my passions effectively on the platform. This week prompted me to organize and categorize the layout of my website, considering elements like screenplays, historical work/exhibits, and an acting resume. Despite my efforts, I found coding to be challenging, highlighting the need for further study, particularly in HTML.
This week served as a humbling experience, making me realize the importance of mastering coding languages. I intend to map out the placement of links and headers meticulously, tweaking the layout and color scheme to convey a professional image. Next week, my focus will be on creating more content that presents me in a professional light. Reviewing the upcoming assignment, I foresee the need for careful attention to detail, especially concerning code and placement. Despite the challenges, I’m excited about bringing everything together. This experience has revealed my capability to design something of a high standard, which was previously unknown to me.
Week 4- – AI Portfolio Reconnaissance
Things that chat gpt guided me to use and create things for a portfolio as an actor and a writer for screen? That is the prompt I submitted and below I will list the key factors it guided me in.
It seems like there might be a slight error in your question. If you are asking about what an entry-level screenwriter’s portfolio needs to look like, I can certainly provide some guidance.
An entry-level screenwriter’s portfolio should highlight their writing skills, creativity, and understanding of the craft. Here are some key elements that could be included:

- **Loglines and Summaries: ** Provide concise and intriguing loglines for each script, along with brief summaries that highlight the key elements of the story.
- **Personal Statement: ** Include a brief but impactful personal statement. This can cover your passion for storytelling, your influences, and what makes you unique as a writer.

- **Relevant Experience: ** If you have any relevant experience, such as internships, writing competitions, or industry workshops, include them in your portfolio.
- **References or Recommendations: ** If you have received positive feedback or recommendations, consider including them in your portfolio. This can add credibility to your work.
Remember that quality is more important than quantity. It is better to have a few outstanding pieces that showcase your best work rather than overwhelming your portfolio with mediocre material. Tailor your portfolio to the type of work you want to pursue in the industry.
Certainly! Building a comprehensive and impressive screenwriting portfolio involves including various materials that highlight your skills and showcase your abilities as a storyteller. Here is a list of materials you might consider including in your screenwriting portfolio:

– A resume outlining your education, relevant coursework, and any industry-related experience or internships.
- **Scripts: **
– Feature 2-3 of your best scripts. These can include original screenplays, TV pilots, or spec scripts for existing shows or movies.
- **Loglines and Summaries: **
– Provide loglines for each script along with brief summaries that encapsulate the essence of the story.
- **Treatment or Synopsis: **
– A more detailed treatment or synopsis for one or more of your scripts, giving a broader overview of the plot, characters, and key story beats.
- **Writing Samples: **
– Include excerpts or short scenes that showcase your ability to write compelling dialogue, descriptions, and character interactions.

– If you have taken relevant courses or attended screenwriting workshops, include details to showcase your commitment to learning and improving your craft.
- **References or Recommendations:**
– If you have received positive feedback or recommendations from industry professionals or mentors, consider including them in your portfolio.
- **Online Presence: **
– If you have a personal website, blog, or social media accounts related to your writing, provide links. Make sure your online presence reflects your commitment to screenwriting.
Remember, the goal is to present a well-rounded and professional image that reflects your skills and potential as a screenwriter. Tailor your portfolio to the specific requirements of the job or opportunity you are applying for.
I wanted to elevate my portfolio to highlight and network as a Black women writer and actor here are some tips included by Chat GPT:

Then I asked it to add more things tailored to Atlanta job scene and the language or style a should write my portfolio and cover letter in:
The language and style of your writing and acting portfolio should reflect professionalism, creativity, and your personal voice. Here are some guidelines to consider:

– Ensure consistency in style, formatting, and language throughout your portfolio. This helps create a cohesive and polished presentation.
**3. Showcase Your Voice: **
– Let your unique voice shine through, especially in your personal statement or introduction. Showcasing your personality and passion for storytelling can set you apart.

**5. Adapt to the Audience: **
– Tailor your language and style to the specific audience you are addressing. A cover letter to a casting director might have a different tone than a personal statement on your website.
**6. Clarity: **
– Prioritize clarity in your writing. Clearly convey your experiences, skills, and aspirations without unnecessary complexity.
**7. Creativity in Showcase Pieces: **
– In the samples of your work, such as monologues or script excerpts, let your creativity flourish. These pieces are where you can highlight your unique writing or acting style.
**8. Engaging Language: **
– Use engaging and descriptive language to draw the reader in. Whether it is a cover letter, resume, or script excerpt, make your writing compelling.
**9. Conciseness: **
– Keep your writing concise and to the point. Portfolios are often reviewed quickly, so make your key points efficiently.
**10. Adapt to Platform: **
– If your portfolio is online, adapt the language and style to the platform. For example, a personal blog or website may allow for a more personal and creative tone.
**11. Proofread Thoroughly: **
– Regardless of your chosen style, make sure to proofread your portfolio materials thoroughly. Typos and errors can detract from your professionalism.
**12. Be Authentic: **
– Be true to yourself in your writing and acting samples. Authenticity can resonate with readers and viewers.
The language and style should align with your personal brand and the image you want to convey to potential employers, casting directors, or collaborators. Keep in mind the expectations of the industry while infusing your own creativity and voice into your portfolio.
Lastly, I asked for making a cover letter distinctly for my brand as a Black Haitian actor and screenwriter based in Atlanta here was what Chat GPT told me:

I see how all the details are important in personal branding and scoring more jobs. My favorite tips that Ai generated me was under tailoring for Atlanta’s talent scene directly. When it started to long lines in scripts and adapting to the audience/ pieces to the industry. It feels like the course and Ai are gearing me to basic yet important needs I did not think of before.
The assignment helped me map out that I must be creating creative pieces that can go in my portfolio. The assignment opened my eyes that I need to schedule a headshot, film my real and gain audition experience. I noticed that I have a lack of script as well so now I need to get to work on creating diverse narratives. The portfolio also is telling me to develop a new voice that is distinctive to me so maybe continuing a blog or getting an internship. My personal brand has already been starting yet I see how I need to shift it for a job audience opening what I film about to craft who I want to be seen as to employers. Lastly the financial investment and time I need to be putting into the cover letter from school resources of the writing lab to office hours. Lastly the homework and class is challenging me to really bet on myself with such a competitive field.
Week 3- Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) As a Career Coach
My starting prompt for both ChatGPT and Claudie was:
“I am about to graduate from college in two years with a bachelor’s degree in Acting. I want to find an entry-level position in writing or acting in the film industry, remote or in Atlanta, Georgia. What skills do I need to demonstrate? What kinds of artifacts should I have to show I have those skills? What are some resources that I should pursue to help me learn about what I need to do to find my first industry acting job?”
After synthesizing my sources and conducting research, I gathered a combination of skills. The sources listed quite common things, and ChatGPT provided more information in response to my follow-up questions:
– How can I gain real-world practices in the Atlanta film and writing scene?
– What networking opportunities does the Atlanta film industry offer?
– What organizations are good for Black filmmakers or actors to use?
– Are there any resources for Black queer film actors or Black musical theatre actors?
– Theatre companies in Atlanta that work with inexperienced actors?
– What are free networking resources Black actors in the film industry can use?
– What are some free resources Black women screenwriters can access?
From my synthesized material, I decided to separate it into sections: Artifacts, Free Networking, Skills, Resources, and Other Black Women Actors they suggested.

Across the board, screenwriting skills involve learning basic techniques such as script formatting, storytelling, and character development. Communication skills, including effective verbal pitching, are crucial. Additionally, being able to create blogs, cover letters, emails, and show pitches is important. Investing experience into a good actor’s reel, headshots, and participating in local acting classes or becoming a production assistant (PA) is recommended. Interning for programs like Upright Citizens and Stellar Adler Studio can provide hands-on set experience to build a resume. Creating an online presence and a personal brand through self-promotion, portfolios, and displaying accolades is significant. The extra suggestions AI brought up were helpful! There was a plethora of sayings to expand and include links that might be beneficial for discovering these resources. ChatGPT also pointed out potential aspects I could elaborate on in my sections about the Queer collective and acting skills. It also recommended expanding on available mentorships and suggested internships for post-grad life that could provide direction to my post. The last suggestion I found noteworthy was to create a more compelling conclusion to tie together the synthesis of my post. Overall, it helped infuse character and vitality into my post about pursuing dreams in the industry and effective ways to achieve them.
The assignment has been an eye-opener for me, shedding light on my writing style and revealing my lack of knowledge about organizations supporting Black women filmmakers and actors. It provided insights into utilizing free resources effectively and enhancing the comprehensiveness and readability of different sections. This experience highlighted the AI’s prowess in paper editing, idea augmentation, and industry insights.
Discovering the abundance of organizations and funding opportunities for Black creatives in Atlanta was a significant revelation. Now, I’m motivated to refine my writing skills, create a portfolio, invest in headshots, and gather essential materials. The realization that preparation is crucial in building a robust portfolio and using social media to eventually secure representation has been an important takeaway. While the current moment feels a bit overwhelming, I’m more equipped with a clear game plan. This assignment has shifted my perspective on ChatGPT and Claudie, disproving my preconceived notions about AI’s role in education.
Week 2
For this week’s assignments I went on a deep dive starting with indeed, I went and searched up writing jobs at an entry level. I looked for a radius of 100 miles and there was great spam from being an assistant researcher, teacher, social media marketing and much more. It was not the most relevant thing I found some opportunities that sparked my interest, looked for acting or history. I barely got results, so I stuck to entry level position on writing and editing. The next website I went to was LinkedIn which the results from searching up writing produced freelance positions, movie list writers, editorial positions, and teaching positions. Now to get into pay range it was a huge gap some entry levels give you 55,000 dollars yet no benefits or retirement plans. So, a lot of the entry positions for people with master’s degrees have a build your way up mentality. I found a lot of relevant opportunities, more internships are available than entry job opportunities but still a lot of viable sources especially for places that would pay relocation, bonuses, and all. This assignment helped me figure out that being specific with your search is beyond important to land a position!
The job listings had common qualifications, responsibilities, and software expectations. The common ones I noticed were strong writing background, transcribing text, possess strong oral and written communication skills. The listings said to have strong interpersonal skills, be detail-oriented, effective team player, open availability, and creative mindset. These are some of the mandatory qualification’s employers consistently saying now for the software expectations it varied. Positions that were not freelance, and more office based like court reporter looked for proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, prophecy with computers and being able do input lots of data in short periods of time. The software qualifications for freelance writing or editing software using JavaScript, Graphic design skills, Experience using Finalsite Composer, Blackboard WCM, proficient in Microsoft Office, WordPress, Drupal, and Photoshop.
When it comes to educational background for each position it was looking for a Bachelor graduate and a person with a master’s degree. The fields are looking for experience in Communications, marketing, and editor positions. The entry level positions are all looking for major experiences in the intended field which made it feel unattainable at first. Each place had similar responsibilities like to optimize engagement with users, to communicate effectively and ensure accuracy, relevance, and timeliness of incoming information lastly to full time with nighttime availability when it came to cooperative positions.

The things that were reinforced that I need are Microsoft certification, website creation, graphic design experience and creating a social media brand. I want to learn how to create my digital portfolio and learn how to write from screen and stage. This will help me gain experience and an internship for news or in the writing studio at Georgia state. This research taught me I need to become serious about acquiring my headshots, auditioning for more roles, and networking for connections. I think mapping it all out and seeing the possibilities through a lens of realism will help me plan on what I need to focus on.
Week one- Career aspirations
Hello,
My name is Michelle Viard, and I am a junior acting student at Georgia State university with a concentration in writing. I know already that I want to further my education and dive fully into performing arts. I plan to become a successful Sag actor and a screenwriter for network television or film. For me to be able to accomplish my aspirations I need to get a masters in English to help me improve my writing to a professional level. This will help me create scripts like Issa Reas “Insecure”, my overall goal is to create shows and plays that highlight People of Color and tells the stories of those who are silenced. To accomplish this i plan to get an internship with the Humanities Inclusivity Program that is set up to help undergraduates with a mentorship program to have a chance to explore a career in their field. To get my first job after college I hope networking can help me climb up from background actor to set Production assistant and learn how to work my way up to screenwriting.
Being a freelance screenwriter allows for me to work on multiple projects while having a simultaneously flexible schedule where I can also act like Micheala Coel has done with “Chewing Gum” and “I may destroy you”. This would help me finally write and be in stories that show more diverse perspectives. My masters in English also helps me with being a screenwriter because it would help me conduct research, develop characters and storylines. I do not know yet after screenwriting if I want to completely dive into stage writing or maybe go back from a second master’s in public history. This course would help me discover all the possibilities and see one career path through fully.
