Trace Positive with Drypoint Additive
Negative Monoprint with Additive Reductive
For this project, I based my composition on the works of John Brosio. When I first did my dry point, I used green, red, and blue for the grass, barn and sky, respectively. This was okay, but not very interesting to look at, so I altered them a bit for my final. I kept the red, but tinted it with blue, and tinted the blue and yellow with black. The black made the yellow look green, so I was able to keep my original color scheme a bit. I think it looks more interesting this way and gives it a darker tone, which I think fits with the second layer I added, where I used the hand and needle from my etching. I used it to represent the captive bolt stunning that’s used on cows before they’re slaughtered, which I thought was perfect because it was another form of animal and human interaction and because it happens on farms, too.
