Opinion Piece: Latina College Student Used ‘Hence’ In Paper, Is Accused Of Plagiarism

Huffington post wrote a piece about a female student who turned in a paper deemed plagiarized. I find this quite disgusting. The student even quotes as saying in her tweet about the paper, “They assumed I plagiarized my paper because it sounded too scholarly.” What makes me most upset is that the professor actually deemed certain words and passages as not being of original work. The idea that he labeled her as being unfit academically to write this paper is incredibly wrong. What kind of world do we live in where people can make assumptions about anyone anymore. People are so diverse within themselves, why do people attempt to make generalizations about anyone. We live in a modern world with modernist thinking. This just caught my eye and drove me crazy. We might be advanced, but still lag behind in many ways unseen by many.
