FYG (Chapter 8) Reading Summary

Digital Literacy-What we can say in a space is limited by what we can do in a space.

  • how does being seconds away from the internet at all impact our attention?
    • creation of our own lists of regulatory media
    • avoidance of web content that we feel is irrelevant or is not likely to agree with our own understanding of the world
  • Influtention-intention added to attention, and mixed with knowledge of the information-filtering –>a coordinated mind machine process
    • pay more attention to what is actually being done on the internet
  • There was a shift from outsourced and passive information to more personal consumer driven information(Facebook).
    • post on the internet=published author
  • participation increases our engagement in learning and connects us to other people to enhance learning
  • blogs vary in definitions
  • difficult to work simultaneously
    • could negatively effect ethos
  • know your audience and consider what you want this piece to change, affect, display, inform, etc.

Tips for multimedia:

  1. consider medium carefully
  2. think about the affordance and constraints of media
  3. develop your media(learn how to enhance)
  4. compose within medium

Too much “out there” to invest our attention slowly

  1. visual
  2. gestural
  3. audio
  4. linguistic
  5. spatial
