Week 14

As we are in the final week, I think it is a clear audience for my website , will keep working on it visually , yes.  My resume is now in there as well as the tabs that separate my about me page as well as the resume. If only the general public new how much of a struggle that was. It was an accomplishment to figure that out. Still trying to make it look good to my liking, it looks basic to me at this very moment but it will all come together. I am glad that I have gotten this far with having some of the basic guidelines but there will be more added. So far it is good!

Week 13 reflection

With the semester about to end, my url is coming together however the benefits of learning how to code are becoming difficult with technology issues. With everything going on I am still actively trying my best and trying not to get overwhelmed. Coding being such a new skill and with technical difficulties it can cause stress but nonetheless I am still curious and still actively trying. I am utilizing this post as a tru blog post expressing my feelings and emotions about the project here. I like the idea but I would love to have all resources at hand. I am going to still try to make it look visually appealing. Trying to master changing font and colors.

Week 12

As I am continuing on my journey with creating my digital portfolio, I realize that mine is going to look very different than the typical portfolio and resume format on a website. I have my art as the first thing that you see and then I have my resume and about myself on different pages. My main concern is making everything look concise. I am still learning the basics with coding but having to make the website look good is where I am struggling. I am someone that wants all of my work to look good and represent me so thus should be a challenge.

Week 11 reflection

As I have been learning Java script I realize that coding is a very tedious task. It can be very difficult if there is no attention to detail. My particular website requires a visual artist portfolio so I am showcasing my painting and photography. My portfolio is only half of what I have actually done in my life. I have been painting and illustrating all my life. In order to showcase my other talents I have to create my resume and redo my “ About me” page to be able to really show my talents in things such as sales and writing as well. It is good to be multi talented. My goals within the next weeks is finishing the resume part and making everything come together.

Recommendations for a Creative Director

A creative director needs to have a diverse range of works, such as through different software and platforms. There should be both finished creative work and mock ups in the portfolio. There needs to be a way that a story is told with some of the works. Once there is experience present then one becomes a proper director.

Entry level portfolios are going to include personal campaigns that can showcase variety. Specifically develop storyboards if not already. The main goal is to show different skills so it can emphasize leadership skills. Knowing storyboard skills was interesting to me, but it makes sense to be well aware of. When storyboarding narrating is important, and knowing how to write a story from scratch showcases one’s creativity. The main goal with a portfolio for this career type is to show that one can do everything. In order to be a proper leader there needs to be success or at the least, knowledge in all things. I am going to continue building my portfolio as mentioned in previous blog posts as well. I am going to incorporate more storytelling and personal campaigns that I am working on in my portfolio.  I do want to add more diverse works utilizing software that I do not use a lot.  I can learn how to use certain software personally. As long as I  continue to emphasize personal branding and continuously building my portfolio then I will be satisfied. The information from Ai just confirmed everything I need to know.

Gaining Deeper Understanding for my Dream Career

Getting an internship is one of the best ways to prepare for a job within Interdisciplinary studies. Take courses such as Marketing, Graphic design and Web design. Major tech companies offer free marketing certifications that can enhance a portfolio. If there is not a portfolio already started then create one. To add to the skill work it is smart to create marketing campaigns from scratch. To familiarize yourself, reach out to professionals that work in your field.

 My response to the statement

I already knew that a portfolio would need to be present in order to be successful in my career field. Most commonly, internships were a big thing that was recommended because most companies want one to have experience with other agencies before working with them. There needs to be experience present. The communication and presentation skills need to be always be perfected when going into this kind of business.

I learned that it would be interesting to do my own advertising campaigns in real life to add to my portfolio. I did not think of that originally. I have not looked into social media management because I thought that I would know so much already. I did not know about websites such as Asana, Trello, or Monday.com, so those will be very helpful to me in the future.

What I need to do is create more advertising campaigns for my personal brand. Once I add that I can then have more depth in my portfolio. I am already familiar with deadlines from school but on a creative level I want to learn to become accustomed to creative deadlines.

I am feeling very confident. I do want to continue making my portfolio stronger and still want to add way more graphic design projects as well. I need my portfolio to truly showcase who I am as an artist as well as my strengths. That is going to be a personal goal of mine to add more campaigns and more artwork.

My Creative Career Includes a lot of Preparation

The career of choice requires me to look on websites such as Handshake, The Muse , and LinkedIn. Some terms that I researched were “ creative director”, “ graphic designer”, “ illustrator”, “ marketing manager”. I was looking for career opportunities in Atlanta but if an opportunity presents itself that is somewhere else in the US, maybe Miami or NYC then yes I will consider the opportunity. There were endless opportunities available to me.

The responsibilities that majority of the jobs required a portfolio with all of my artwork. There is a need for graphic design portfolios as well as experience with other agency’s. They want a lot of experience to show that you are qualified for the position. The responsibilities will mostly require meeting with management frequently. Discussing ideas with the management team is listed a lot. All of the creative positions require constant meetings, but the marketing positions are less.

The employers are looking for professionalism. They want to make sure that you understand the kind of environment you are going to be working in. They want management ability, leadership skills are important for any position. With the leadership abilities there are also software that needs to be known about. The person would need to know about photoshop, Microsoft word, and excel.

The employers are looking for a great portfolio that had endless amounts of work, whether it is graphic design, illustration and papers. My resume would also be helpful because it shows my sales and internship opportunities that were available to me. Depending on the creative job, it will be certain things in the portfolio that is needed. If it is a web design job then there needs to be experience with designing websites and graphic design.

I need to create more graphic design work through photoshop as well as have more experience with actual management. I have a big portfolio when it comes to my illustrations and papers that I have written but I do need more graphic design work to make sure my talents are not hidden.  I need to take everything that I am learning in my current internship in and apply it.

Overall, my research about jobs that do interest me showed me that I can have a job where I am creating and enjoy what I do. I just need to add a couple more art pieces to my portfolio and also build a website with my graphics. It made me feel more relieved when it comes to that job searching time frame after graduation. With proper preparation I will be fulfilled with my job choice and will enjoy what I do.

My career aspirations

As my college career is about to end, I would like to work in my desired field and work as a director for a creative agency and work on creative ideas. I would also like to jumpstart my content creating and sell my art and utilize my voice to make myself money. I want to own multiple businesses from starting my content. It is very doable with the social media impact and presence into the current society. I have a unique vision and voice and really want to showcase it to the world and gain a big audience. I have an art portfolio and a writing portfolio. My work does showcase my visual talents but I want to expand my writing and voice talents as well.
