Practice Mindfulness at Georgia State Law

There are many opportunities for mindful practice at Georgia State Law. The law school offers a formal 6-week  program which is open to all students every fall semester and provides an introduction to mindfulness and meditation practices.  Students can also attend free yoga classes and informal guided meditation sessions each week. All of our classes are appropriate for beginners and experienced practitioners. If you are interested in deepening your contemplative practice, we offer a free day-long meditation retreat each semester. For more information about any of our upcoming events and classes, contact the president of our student organization, Christopher Kanelos, at ckanelos1@student.gsu.edu

Meditation Sessions: (Fall schedule TBD) Room 538

Our weekly meditation sessions are an excellent opportunity to try out basic meditation techniques in a group setting. The guided meditation lasts between 15 and 20 minutes and is followed by a brief discussion of the practice. The sessions are led by experienced faculty and students who will walk you through the basics if you are new to mindful practice.

Yoga Classes: Mondays 4:45-5:45 pm and Tuesdays 7:30-8:30 am, located in the third-floor Faculty Commons Room

Our yoga classes are appropriate for all levels including those with no prior yoga experience. Georgia State Law provides mats for all participants, all you need is a comfortable set of workout clothes and an open mind.

Fall Semester Retreat: (time and date TBA)

We hold retreats once a semester to give students and opportunity to relax and recharge. The retreats feature yoga, qi gong, and meditation sessions. Indian Creek Lodge is an excellent retreat space where students can enjoy nature walks and a sense of solitude within the city limits.

Law Week Presentation: April 2018 at the College of Law

Our law week presentation generally features a panel of attorneys with wide-ranging experience in contemplative and legal practice. Our panelists discuss the benefits of mindful practice for lawyers and the neuroscientific and behavioral studies supporting those benefits.
