What is it?

Defined as perseverance and passion for long-term goals.

    • Grit, as defined by Angela Duckworth, is the “passion and perseverance for long-term goals.” It’s the inner fire that keeps us going when things get tough and the steady focus that helps us achieve our dreams, no matter how long it takes.
    • Grit entails working strenuously toward challenges, maintaining effort and interest over years despite failure, adversity, and plateaus in progress.

  •

    •  An important aspect of grit is that it is “attributable to a significant decrease in confidence that one is likely to succeed if one continues to try.” It is explained that grit is not simply the ability to withstand the pain of effort and setbacks, or to resist the “siren song of easier rewards”, it is a trait or capacity that consists partly in a kind of “epistemic resilience.”
