Why is Grit important?
The importance of utilizing the trait of grit lies in its ability to provide individuals with valuable insights into their work ethic and perseverance. It prompts self-reflection on qualities such as diligence and commitment. Grit is applicable in many different cases, including sports, academics, and professional fields. Its manifestation may vary on how we use it over time. In specific professions like nursing, doctors require grit to deliver exceptional patient care. Similarly, entrepreneurs rely on grit to persist in making their business dreams come to life despite encountering repeated failures. Overcoming the fear of failure is closely linked to workplace grit, as it can hinder progress. Grit aids individuals in facing challenges and setbacks by fostering resilience, seeking support, learning from failures, and breaking down goals. Additionally, developing intense concentration and determination involves finding passion, maintaining consistent effort, nurturing resilience, fostering a positive mindset, and celebrating small victories, which is extremely important in succeeding.
What can having grit help with?
Whenever you have grit for something, it gives you a passion to do something and it inspires you to get up every morning to achieve it. You get to have a sense of purpose and something to inspire you to do better every day. Many falsely think that successful people become successful effortlessly. This is not true as most successful people had to work hours and hours in order to reach this level of success. The hours required grit for them to continue because, without the trait of grit, they could have easily given up.
Grit is also important because, in life, we have to work hard to achieve what we want. Not everything comes easy, and surely not everything comes naturally. Even if someone was naturally gifted to be really good at something, they still have to do whatever it is they are gifted at in order to achieve what they want. They have to work on it even if it is a trait they already have or else nothing happens.
Example: Someone may be naturally fast and have the genetics of being a really fast runner. If they do not run, they will never be noticed or achieve any accomplishments in running since they do not use this gift they have. If they do run and want to be noticed by others for this skill they have, they have to train to become even better than they already are. This training requires grit and helps them stand out from other runners because they are persistent with training to be the best runner.
