Creating a culture that fosters both team and individual engagement needs to come from leadership. Increased engagement can benefit workers at all levels within an organization. Studies show a direct correlation between leadership engagement and both team and individual engagement.
Teams
At the team level, cohesion of individuals requires proper team-based performance indicators, with a strong support from leadership to achieve these goals. Good teams are agile, quickly adapting to changing environments and goals. Creating increased engagement in teams provides better team performance, team learning, and team innovation. As long as transparency is presented, teams will be more capable in succeeding in evolving industries.
Individuals
Individuals all have basic psychological needs, even at work. Effective leadership should create an environment that allows workers to meet these needs. Increased individual engagement will be spurred by meeting basic needs for competence, relatedness, and autonomy. This may be accomplished by empowering and inspiring employees within their roles.
