A company’s mission and vision combine to help define its purpose. A proper vision helps define the world in which an organization seeks to create, while a mission defines the roadmap and core values to get there. So then does a proper vision and mission foster an environment where the employees also have a purpose.
Studies show that employees working for a company with a higher purpose exhibit higher levels of engagement. Keep in mind that a truly worthwhile purpose is something that encompasses all stakeholders of a corporation, and can be seen at all levels.
When you work day in and day out, a clear lack of understanding how your role fits within the broader picture can turn any task into a mundane one. On the other hand, a sense of purpose can help bring a sense of meaning, well-being, and belonging to a role. Therefore, a stronger and well-defined purpose does indeed lead to higher rates of engagement.
