My name is Winona and I am a sophomore engineering major at GSU Perimeter. I am interested in pursuing a major in nuclear engineering when I transfer. This sector interests me because of the recent progress in nuclear energy. I believe the world could benefit (in environmental terms) majorly from a society more reliant on nuclear power. I see a change happening in the future and would like to be a part of this shift. I am eager to pursue this because of my passion for taking care of the planet we live on. My background is in the arts, and I decided to go back to school after the pandemic gave me time to think about what I valued and what I wanted to spend my time devoted to. I believe this experience makes me a stronger engineer as it taught me to view life outside of the typical structure of STEM.
One thing I am looking forward to at SWE are the panels so I can learn what technology and practices are currently being used in the industry. I love what we learn inside the classroom but am interested in having a more well-rounded education when it comes to what the field is like. I am also excited to meet other female engineers and hear about their experiences!
