Sofia Saavedra

My name is Sofia Saavedra, and I am currently a sophomore engineering major. I plan to pursue biomedical engineering and specialize in the creation and improvement of medical devices. My mom wanted to become a doctor but couldn’t afford medical school. She was very passionate about helping people and improving their health. I grew up wanting to do that as well. However, I also noticed how I have always been inclined towards technology, devices, and programming. Therefore, I found how BME combines all my passions into one. Although I couldn’t start college as soon as I graduated from high school, I worked very hard for a while to be able to start and at the same time help my family.

I feel very happy to be part of this conference. First of all, the fact of being surrounded by women, making connections, and listening to other people’s experiences is what excites me the most. In this conference, I also seek to learn what is beyond college and what industries look for. Additionally, being able to attend the career fair is a great opportunity to network and practice my social skills. Several of the companies I’m interested in are going to be there, so I can’t wait to attend!
