Rakeb Tesfassellasie

My name is Rakeb Tesfassellasie, I am a freshman engineering major at Georgia State Perimeter College, and I am interested in pursuing a major in industrial engineering. I chose this major because I enjoy the problem-solving and critical thinking involved in the process. I’ve always liked the idea of perfecting and analyzing problems. I also like the variety of job options that the industrial engineering major offers. While I am very passionate about industrial engineering, there are also so many aspects of it and STEM that I still don’t know. However, I am very eager to learn.

As I mentioned earlier, I know that I still have a long way to go and that’s why I am so excited to attend the Society of Women Engineers Annual Conference. I believe it will expose me to new insights, new information, the ability to network with people, and the opportunity to pick up skills that will significantly progress both my career and personal development. I firmly believe that the event will inspire me to set more challenging objectives and work toward even greater success as I interact with outstanding professionals, share ideas with other attendees, and learn from eminent speakers. I am especially excited to have the chance to engage with extraordinary women who have successfully navigated the pathway and are ready to teach the next generation of people like me, who may not have had as many big opportunities in life so far. Lastly, I am inspired by the diversity among my fellow attendees. I believe that all of us can learn from the exposure to real-world situations at this conference. For me, I know that this amazing opportunity will meaningfully affect my future in so many unpredictable ways.
